?Poor Kurt? is trending globally on Twitter and that?s not surprising after tonight?s dramatic episode of Glee on Fox.
The phrase ?Poor Kurt? represents how the Twitterverse feels about Kurt Hummel, the openly gay character played by Chris Colfer, being named Prom Queen.
In case you missed it, Kurt was embarrassed after his homophobic classmates named him Prom Queen, stormed out of the prom, was consoled by his on-screen boyfriend Blaine Anderson (played by Darren Criss), and ultimately returned to accept the crown.
Fred Sainz, spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign, the country?s largest gay rights organization, shared with me what he thinks viewers will take away from tonight?s controversial storyline.
?The moral of tonight?s episode is that you shouldn?t let labels define you,? says Sainz.
?That?s why Kurt embracing his unexpected election sent an affirming message to kids that may be struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identity,? he added. ?All too often, gay kids are expected to retreat.?
Sainz concluded, ?Kurt proved that you can embrace perceived vulnerabilities and turn them into positives.?
What are your thoughts on tonight?s episode?
